Henry Lawrence Eustis, AB ‘38—that’s 1838—was a professor of engineering at Harvard’s Lawrence Scientific School, a precursor to the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. A graduate of both Harvard and the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, Eustis joined the Harvard faculty in 1849 and later served in the Civil War, first as a Colonel and later as Brigadier General. He returned to Harvard in 1864 to continue teaching engineering.
