Freedom Food Farm Field Trip and Potluck
September 9th, leave campus 3:30pm and return 8pm. Bring a bagged meal or potluck dish to share.
Freedom Food Farm grows amazing produce, meat and eggs in Raynham, MA using organic and biodynamic principles. They have a farm stand, CSA, and sell at farmers’ markets and wholesale. This event is in partnership with the Young Farmer Network and will include a farm tour and a potluck dinner after. $5 covers transportation and reserves your spot.

Field of Greens Field Trip
September 18th, 9-12am
Join FLP for a tour of Food For Free’s farm in Lincoln, MA and help harvest fresh produce to be delivered and donated to local food pantries and shelters in the Boston area. The farm is volunteer-run and provides nearly 6,000lbs of fresh produce each year to families who do not have access to fresh local produce. $5 reserves a spot and covers transportation.

Richardson’s Dairy and Ice Cream Field Trip
September 24th, leave campus at 1:15, return by 4pm
Join FLP for a tour of Richardson’s Dairy and Ice Cream. We’ll start with a tour of the milk and ice cream production rooms and then head out to the barn to see the cows and watch the afternoon milking process. Wear shoes you don’t mind getting dirty and bring your sweet tooth! HUDS purchases Richardson’s Ice Cream from only a half hour drive away! $5 reserves a spot and covers transportation.

Apple orchard field trip
September 27th, leave campus 9am and return by 2:30pm
Join FLP on a tour of Nobel Prize winner Dr. Eric Chivian’s orchard, Pairidaeza Farm. Dr. Chivian is currently the director of the Center for Health and the Global Environment at Harvard and spends his weekends growing apples. Some of the apples that Dr. Chivian grows will be served in the dining halls for the Sustainability Meal at the end of October. Watch this short clip to learn a little about Dr. Chivian’s farm. Bring a bagged lunch. $5 reserves a spot and covers transportation.

Shuck Off- Local Corn Shucking Competition!
September 8th, 4-6pm, the Farmers Market on the Plaza
Compete on your own or in a team to shuck the most local corn in five minutes! The winner will have fresh locally served corn in their dining hall at the next evening’s dinner! Show your house pride! Win local corn on the menu! We’ll have tasty local prizes to give out! Stop by the farmers’ market on the Plaza between 4-6pm to shuck! 
 

The 4th Annual Countway Community Garden Harvest Festival

September 18th 3:00-5:00, Harvard Divinity School

Jenny Hauf from Muddy River Herbals will give a presentation on sustainable agriculture and medicinal plants, followed by an outdoor reception in the garden with live music, treats, and tea made from herbs grown in the garden. This event is free and open to everyone.
 

Boston Local Food Festival

September 20th, 11am-5pm, Rose Kennedy Greenway, Boston, MA

Take the red line to MGH and walk a pleasant 15 minutes through historic neighborhoods to this free outdoor event celebrating local and sustainable food! The festival showcases farmers, restaurants, food trucks, organizations that work in food and wellness and more! Try samples, listen to live music, and watch Boston’s best chefs demo their skills.
