Book Talk: Devoured: A Journey Into the American Food Psyche

Join FLP for an exciting book event and reception with New York Times food and health writer and Culinary Institute of America program director Sophie Egan. Her new book, Devoured: From Chicken Wings to Kale Smoothies--How What We Eat Defines Who We Are, is a provocative look at how and what Americans eat and why—a flavorful blend of The Omnivore’s Dilemma, Salt Sugar Fat, and Freakonomics that reveals how the way we live shapes the way we eat. The talk will be followed by a book signing and reception featuring foods related to themes in the book. Books will be for sale.

FALL into the Farmers' Market
Curious about what you can take home from the market tomorrow?
Here's just a sampling of the farm fresh goodies:
Swiss Chard, Sweet Corn, Concord Grapes, Plums, Pears, Raspberries, Apples, Eggplant, Potatoes, Tomatoes (nearing the end!), Callaloo, Herbs, Pumpkins, Pastured Meats, Goat Cheese, Eggs, and more!
ALSO--If you are interested in purchasing a local, pasture-raised turkey for Thanksgiving, Stillman Meats is taking holiday orders now! Follow their website for the order form or inquire at tomorrow's market!
Looking for lunch? We've got many options at the market, including fruit smoothies, hot Indian entrees, samosas, tamales, salad bowls, and plant-based soups!
Looking for an afternoon pick me up? Treat yourself to the best biscotti from Trill Foods, piece of heavenly fudge from Fudge N Stuff, or a gluten free chocolate cookie from 7ate9 Bakery! All pair nicely with a jar of cold brew from Twin Lights!
Mmm Fall at the market is looking and tasting great :) See you there!

Weekly Recipe
In honor of the beginning of Fall, this week's recipe is a simple, but flavor-packed, recipe for roasted winter squash. Butternut works great, but feel free to experiment with other squash, like Acorn or Delicate depending on availability at your farmers' booth!
